About Álvaro Rodríguez Cabezas

Álvaro Rodríguez Cabezas is a Spanish saxophonist dedicated to conveying deep meaning through the music he performs, focusing on style, aesthetics, rhetoric and emotions. From his point of view, it is essential to know and understand the music of past centuries in order to understand better the music of later periods. Guided by this philosophy, he creates transcriptions of Baroque and Classical repertoire, showcasing the saxophone as a versatile instrument capable of offering fresh perspectives on historical works. Beyond the traditional, Álvaro explores the acoustic frontiers of the saxophone in contemporary music, integrating extended techniques, electronics, and modern innovations.

Álvaro began his musical journey at the at the Centro Superior Katarina Gurska (CSKG) in Madrid under the tutelage of Pedro Pablo Cámara, graduating with the highest distinctions. Seeking new artistic horizons, Álvaro moved to Basel, Switzerland, to pursue a Master of Arts in Musical Performance at the prestigious Hochschule für Musik FHNW with Marcus Weiss. Currently, he is completing postgraduate studies in performance and chamber music with his ensemble, A-Delta Trio, under the guidance of Anton Kernjak, Claudio Martínez Mehner and Marcus Weiss.

Álvaro’s career has been recognized through numerous prestigious awards. His time in Switzerland also saw him honored at the Schlusskonzerte 2023 of the Hochschule für Musik. His earlier career in Spain was equally distinguished; he was a finalist in the prestigious Juventudes Musicales de España Competition in both the woodwind and chamber music categories. His academic excellence has been marked by the Extraordinary Music Prize of the Community of Madrid, the CSKG Soloist Prize, and the End of Grade Prize from the Conservatory of Getafe.
